Today on our Instagram (@STUDIOchannel) we’ve been counting down Complex Mag’s best street art murals of 2013. The Top 5 are below, but the full list is well worth checking out for an insight into the inspiring art that is happening on the streets of the world today.
5. After Gaia’s original mural in South Africa was sprayed over, he returned and added a new layer which in Afrikaans means “to erase revisionism”. Nice.
4. Nunca may not be one of the biggest names in the street art game, but with work like this it’s clear he’s one of the top players. This vibrant piece turned up in South London earlier this year.
3. This tribute to graffiti photographer Martha Cooper for her 70th birthday only lasted a few days in NYC, but it was an incredible collaboration between Faust, Terror 161, Freedom, Bio, Lady Pink, How, Nosm, Daze, Crash and Aiko.
2. With nothing more than a paint roller, Australian born Anthony Lister created one of the most elegant and fluid murals we’ve seen so far this year. With mind-blowing detail, this piece recreates the movements of a ballerina down a Downtown LA wall.
1. Ad disruptions are a big part of street art, but this takes it to a whole new level. Mobstr set up this board in London with nothing more than a bunch of markers, and within hours it was full of contributions from passers-by. Everyone loves street art that lets them be the artist! We found that out at Melbourne Festival a few years back.
