Australian Television Premiere: Tuesday 15 November, 8.45pm
Close your eyes and be transported to 1940s Paris as Canadian songstress Martha Wainwright tackles the songs of French legend Edith Piaf.
Filmed in 2009 at the Dixon Place Theatre in New York nearly half a century after Piaf’s death, Wainwright performs the sultry, gravel-voiced sounds of Piaf in a deeply moving tribute. Highlights include Wainwright’s stirring performances of Piaf classics such as La Vie En Rose, Non La Vie Ne Pas Triste and Un Chant D’amour. Her mother and country legend Kate McGarrigle joins her for a moving duet, less than a year before her death.
