Cabaret sensation Meow Meow is the talk of Melbourne after her acclaimed show Little Match Girl won four awards at last night’s Green Room Awards.
The sultry chanteuse, whose show played to sell-out audiences in Melbourne and Sydney, picked up awards in the cabaret category for Outstanding Production, Best Artist, Musical Direction (Iain Grandage) and Best Director (Marion Potts).
Meow Meow’s wins added to a big year for co-producer Malthouse Theatre, who collected nine awards in total. Other winners included Opera Australia with six awards, The Australian Ballet with three and productions including Ganesh Versus The Third Reich and The End.
Meow Meow’s Little Match Girl was embraced by audiences at Sydney Festival 2012. Using Hans Christian Andersen’s bittersweet fable as a starting point, Meow Meow takes on love, youth homelessness and Sydney’s power grid in one fiery show.
STUDIO has the world premiere broadcast of Meow Meow’s Little Match Girl TONIGHT at 8.30pm.
